A Brief History

Begun by a DSHS caseworker that saw that low English skills were major contributors to poverty, KACE has provided comprehensive literacy services to adults throughout Kitsap County since 1979. Until 1986, services were provided entirely by volunteers. Since then, we have contracted with the state annually for various services, currently serving students through the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges’ Office of Adult Basic Education.

We changed our name in 2011 from “Literacy Council of Kitsap” to reflect the broad range of educational and transitional services we provide over and above basic literacy tutoring. Our core remains one-on-one tutoring, but we also have small-group offerings to meet student needs. We now offer individualized Basic through GED preparation within a classroom setting, English language/civics education, and US citizenship preparation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1432923875665{margin-right: 30px !important;margin-left: 30px !important;}” bg_type=”no_bg” parallax_style=”vcpb-default” bg_image_repeat=”no-repeat” bg_image_size=”cover” bg_img_attach=”fixed” parallax_sense=”30″ animation_type=”h” horizontal_animation=”left-animation” vertical_animation=”top-animation” parallax_content_sense=”30″ fadeout_start_effect=”30″ bg_override=”0″][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_text_separator title=”OUR STAFF” title_align=”separator_align_center” color=”orange” style=”dashed” el_class=”largetext”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1432923885735{margin-right: 30px !important;margin-left: 30px !important;}” bg_type=”no_bg” parallax_style=”vcpb-default” bg_image_repeat=”no-repeat” bg_image_size=”cover” bg_img_attach=”fixed” parallax_sense=”30″ animation_type=”h” horizontal_animation=”left-animation” vertical_animation=”top-animation” parallax_content_sense=”30″ fadeout_start_effect=”30″ bg_override=”0″][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text]

Who are KACE staff?

They are people who assess students, teach and mentor them, train and support volunteers, and reach out to the community, and much, much more. They are KACE’s anchors, and are also the reason KACE has been able to meet the needs of our students and the needs of the community.

Staff is grateful for the opportunity to join with the community and share in the joys, frustrations, and success of our students.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1432781018452{margin-left: 50px !important;}”]Ambassadors
